Lovesick Corrective Apparel was formed in the spring of 1995, by Andrea Johnson. Andrea’s formal background includes a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Emily Carr College of Art and Design /Open University (1991) and diplomas in Pattern drafting, Construction Techniques and Fashion Design from the Fashion Arts Certificate Program at VCC (1995). Her natural deviance combined with a love and hatred of fashion to create an outlet for ideas born from 1950’s fetish magazines, case histories, and thrift store curiosities.

As a child, Andrea was obsessed by costumes, glamour, and visual artifice. This was filtered through the contrary culture of punk in the 80’s and the minefield of art school politics in the 90’s. Despite the climate of the Women’s Studies classes she was enrolled in, Andrea’s orientation towards a specific, evil glamour triumphed. A disappointing stint working retail at a west coast S/M leather store was the final fuel for her fire to create the items she had wished for, but could not find.

Since graduating from the Fashion Arts Program, Andrea has researched many facets of corset history -- from the analytical aspects of drafting and historical garment construction to the secret world of corset fetishists. She may currently be found behind one of her sewing machines, most days.
